I LOVE LOVE LOVE small towns with independently owned book stores that are tucked away in a tiny (or not) shop just off the main drag.
The smell is amazing: mix of old and new, dust and wood from the hand built bookshelves which are bowing under the double stacked paperbacks and hardcovers.
On one of my adventures with my family we came across such a bookstore and of course I had to go in. It was a magical place straight out of my bookish dreams.
One of the best things I love about small town bookstores is that they offer cheaper prices compared to the “big guys”. However, this one did not. Granted some books were 20% off but not all.
Oh well. It was fun walking through the store and seeing how many books I couldn’t afford to buy.
Until next time. Happy writing.
I love writing. I’ve been doing it since I could remember. The only things that match my love for writing is my love for my family and my love for reading.
I wouldn’t be able to love writing if I didn’t love to read. Reading helps my imagination flourish, my vocabulary to grow, and the words to flow more easily when writing than if I didn’t read at all.
I’ve been ridiculed for my love of books and I sometimes joke that books are my non-human children. I take care of my books. You won’t find a dog eared page or a cracked spine or bent cover anywhere in my library – unless I adopt a secondhand book.
If you asked me what my favourite book is I won’t tell you mostly because I don’t have one. I love everything I read – even the ones I don’t like because they show me the value of what I do love.
I mostly ready Fantasy, Science-fiction, Adventure, Romance. I don’t favour any particular age group but you might find a lot of young adult in my collection.
Here’s what I’m trying to say:
Read. Read a lot. Then read some more. For me, there’s nothing more depressing than falling out of love with reading. To me, choosing not to read means closing your mind to the ideas of the world – and there’s a lot of beautiful ideas out there. You may not agree with some, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have value. Someone will care and someone will love what you write.
For all my author friends: someone will love your words. Write for that one person and they will love you forever.
Until next time.
PS – I missed two days of dedicated writing time last week because I was too busy preparing for the cottage. I’m making it up while on vacation though! I’ll post something next week for my WIP. 😉
